With its theme of “Youth and Music”, this year’s Musicora has a particularly strong didactic emphasis. Particular concentration is being placed on the laudable intention of inspiring an interest in classical music and the passing on of the skills necessary to inspire and develop such interest. With this in mind there will be a particular focus on instruments specially designed for children and young students, who will have an opportunity to learn how to make and play instruments at two educational workshops.

Educational tools for learning – instrumental methods, books on music and CDs – will also be extensively featured. Aware that example provides a major source of encouragement, Musicora will also publicize initiatives and educational programmes already established, including both those of educational institutions and cultural organisations such as orchestras, festivals and associations. In keeping with this theme, the radio station France Musique, an important partner of Musicora, has created the “Première Journée consacrée aux jeunes et à la musique”, some of which will be broadcast live from Musicora.

To build on this topic France Musique has also created a new website www.surunairdejeunesse.com which will be officially launched during Musicora. The event also features a number of concerts that will take place both before and during Musicora. On 2 April Jean Tubéry and La Fenice will give a programme entitled “De la lagune à la Tamise” in association with Musicora and “Musique Sénat”, a concert series organized by the French Senate for the purpose of promoting talented young artists and ensembles.

Other early music performers appearing include Les Cyclopes, Les Folies Françoises and Diabolus in Musica. With its clear recognition that the future of classical music lies in coming generations, Musicora 2008 is aiming at making a major and important statement.
