19 December 2008 is the deadline for the entry to the Fringe Competition organized by "la Caixa" Social and Cultural Outreach Projects. The Fringe is an initiative open to young performers of early music. It seeks no only to foster young musicians who are launching their careers but also to enable the general public to enjoy early music, performed on historical instruments and following historical criteria, through more accessible initiatives.

Musical ensembles of 3 to 8 members are eligible. Any form of musical expression is welcome, whether instrumental o vocal, provided it is performed according to historical criteria and using historical instruments. All participants must have been born no later than 31 December 1973 and they will be required to propose a concert programme that it should last no more than 50 minutes without an intermission – which will be performed in case of being selected – as well as a CD recording lasting 15 minutes and including at least two different works.

The "la Caixa" Foundation will provide the selected participants with open-air concert stages, paid participation at Fringe concerts, which "la Caixa" Foundation will organize in certain Spanish cities, coverage of travel and accommodation expenses, concert advertising and the chance for greater contact with the professional music world.

The organization will announce its final selection from 9 February on.
