Il Fondamento performs the musically important, but as less well-known, repertoire of the 17th and 18th centuries repertoire.

The musicians strive above all to respect the original style and to produce music that is pleasing to the ear. In barely six years Il Fondamento has built up an international reputation. Besides the CD and radio recordings that have met with unanimous approval, II Fondamento has been invited to play at important festivals at home and abroad.

Since 1995 Il Fondamento has been officially recognised as "Cultural Ambassador of Flanders" by the Ministry of the Flemish Community.
